Lions Clubs combine to provide free dictionaries

Donor: Hamburg, Norwood Young America, and West Carver County Lions Club

Third-grade students at three local elementary schools received a useful gift from local Lions Clubs on Wednesday, October 3, 2007.

After combining their resources to sponsor enough dictionaries for every third-grade student at Central Elementary, Emanuel Lutheran and St. John`s, the Lions Clubs from Hamburg, Norwood Young America and West Carver County came together to present the books to excited students.

Each dictionary was personalized with the student`s name, and Cathleen Williams, from the West Carver County Lions, was quick to point out many other features including maps, directions for sign language, and more.

It was the third consecutive year that the Lions have handed out free dictionaries.  Over that period of time they have worked in conjunction with The Dictionary Project, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the language skills of students.
