Morgan County students receive dictionaries from Rotary Club

The year 2007 was our third year of providing dictionaries to all third graders in the Morgan County School District, Morgan County, Ohio.

We provided 166 dictionaries in the fall of 2007 to third graders and their teachers in three elementary schools: East, South, and West.  The Malta-McConnelsville Rotary Club sent three or four Rotarians to each of the schools to individually hand out to each child.  The names were provided to us by each school and the names of the students were written on a bookmarker.  We also placed a label `A gift from the M & M Rotary` along with the bookmarker and a letter to the parents in each dictionary before handing out the books.  The students were excited and thrilled to receive their own dictionaries.

At the schools, one of the Rotarians would tell the third graders and teachers about Rotary and also what our club does for our community.  We are a very small community of about 16,000 in the entire county.  We received letters from every child in each of the three schools thanking us for the dictionary.

We did have an article in the local newspaper that is published once a week.  However, at this time I have not located a copy and I have two other members trying to find a copy.

Thank you for your interest in our project, and we plan to support the schools with dictionaries for third graders in future years.
