Donor: Rhode Island State Grange
When they call school districts and tell the directors of elementary education they want to provide dictionaries to all the third-graders, the directors usually want to know what the catch is or they think they`ll dealing with a hoax.
It is anything but a hoax. The granges in Rhode Island donated 2,861 dictionaries to third-graders this school year.
`When you first start doing this, they don`t want to believe that you are giving them something for nothing,` said Rhode Island State Grange Community Service Director Margaret Fish.

Thank you for your prompt action to send the dictionaries to me for the Rotary Club of North Providence, Rhode Island project. The superindendent, teachers and students were ecstatic to receive your wonderful dictionary. The president of our club and I visited six elementary schools with an average of two classes per school. The third graders were informed, by our President, about the activities of our club and the coordinated effort we will have for future third graders in North Providence. We had a local newspaper photographer attend two sessions. His story in the newspaper drew immediate attention from a parochial school which is jus...

When we give these books to Metcalf School each September, they include us at their Open House, so the parents get to know about this wonderful project. Also, the librarian provides the book plates on behalf of Exeter Grange #12. You can see that for very little effort on our part, we are able to giv... Click to read full story ... | |
