| Dear
Dictionary Project,
Thank you for providing our class with
the dictionaries. I enjoy reading the words on different pages
and finding out what they mean. Sometimes I play a game with
my Mom. I will call out a word and she will guess the meaning.
I will read what the dictionary says. She does the same thing
to me.
I also like the page on the "Nine
Parts of Speech." It tells me what the parts of speech
are and gives me the definition and examples.
I appreciate you giving my class such a
good book. It will be helpful for the years ahead in school.
Sincerely,
Joseph, Easley, SC
Dear Issaquah Grange,
I really am happy to know that the third
graders now have a book to look into to see states, presidents
and all sorts of words. It's fun and wonderful to know (in
your heart) that somebody cares and wants to help you learn.
Your friend,
Krysta, Issaquah, WA
Dear Mrs. French,
Thank you for the dictionary. It'll come
in handy when I'm writing things. It's nice and small, so
it's easy to carry. It's not gigantic like those heavy, almost
impossible to carry dictionaries. I really like its rich yellow
color. I'm learning so many new words like relinquish and
what circumspection means. I also like the easy to understand
definitions. I'm learning so much so fast. I know the dictionary
will help with my homework too. It's so easy to understand
it's like nothing I've ever read before. I've been having
a lot of fun with this dictionary. Thanks for sending it.
Sincerely,
Martin, Spartanburg District #6
Dear Mrs. French,
Thank you hundred percent for the dictionary.
I read the letters, and especially your letter to the kids.
Now I don't have to go all the way to my computer and look
words up there. It's fast now! Plus I can do homework + schoolwork
better, too.
Your friend,
Courtney, Spartanburg District 6
Dear Mrs. French,
I loved the dictionary you got us. They're
so cool! When I bring it home, my mom will open it up and
sit on the couch and read page by page. It's kind of funny
I know but she'll do it. I do too sometimes! It's fun! When
you look up words or just plain sit and read you can learn
so much. I mean did you know the word hypocrisy means adjective,
the act or practice of being what one is not especially the
false assumption of virtue or religion. So see, you can learn.
Thanks.

Dear Ms. French,
Thank you very much for the really nice
dictionaries. I think I speak for everybody when I say that
they're really helpful.
I have already used mine playing Scrabble.
In my class we have a job called "Word of Wisdom".
"Word of Wisdom" is where you find a word you've
never heard and give the definition.
Once again I say "Thank you!"
Sincerely,
Ryan, Warren School, VT
Dear Ms. Mary French,
Thank you so much for supplying us with
the very educational and resourceful dictionaries. Mine has
become very useful for me. I have used my dictionary for many
different things. Just the other day I looked up the word
"sable", when I was playing Scrabble. Another time
it helped me when my friend and I were looking up how many
people were in each state. We we're surprised that the small
state of Rhode Island has 988,480 people, that's even more
than our home state Vermont, even though it's much bigger!
Also, the other day when I was cooking, I could only find
some of my measuring spoons, so I looked at the last page
of the dictionary and used the cooking conversion chart. I
knew exactly how much of each ingredient to use.
Organizing the dictionary project must
have taken a lot of your time and energy and it was a very
thoughtful thing for you to do for us. I am very thankful
and hope that the project continues to help kids in the future
as much as it has helped me and my peers. Thank you again!
Sincerely,
Cecelia, Warren, VT
Dear Mary French,
I am new at this school and I really enjoyed
receiving a dictionary. My old dictionary was really old and
had tiny print, so I never used it. The dictionary you gave
us has big print. I have already used it twice as much as
my old one. A dictionary, seems like such a minor tool but
it is actually very useful. If you would have given us a ruler
or an atlas, I would have been happy but I am even happier
you gave us a dictionary.
I am not a very good speller. If I get
good at using a dictionary it will make a world of difference
for me.
Thank you again, I really admire your generosity.
I would have never thought of giving kids dictionaries. I'm
glad you did!
Sincerely,
Sophie, Warren, VT
Dear Ms. Mary French,
Thank you for buying us the dictionaries.
My old dictionary is old, out of date, and ripped on some
pages. I have used my dictionary for when I go on the internet
and don't know how to spell a word. I also use my dictionary
for words I don't understand. It's nice to have a new dictionary
that's not ripped and out of date. Also the printing is big
and bold which makes it easier to read.
Thank you again for the dictionary. I have
put my name in it and I plan to use it a lot.
Sincerely,
Jordan,Warren, VT
Dear Mr. Pennoyer
and Mr. Molar,
Thank you for the dictionary!!! I looked
up meteorology. We will use this is Social Studies and if
we don't know what a word means. This is cooler then a normal
dictionary. It has maps, meanings, states continents, and
U.S. Presidents.
Sincerely,
Douglas Goucher

Dear Publix,
Thank you for giving our very own
dictionaries. I used them to help me find different kinds
of things and what the word means. I really enjoy them a lot.
Sometime I just read them at home a lot with my parents or
at school. Now I know what everything is and what it means.
Reading my dictionaries in class is my favorite thing to do
every day. This is really special gift to me.
Thank you!

Dear Publix,
Thank you so much for funding the
money to get dictionaries for Men Riv Elementary school. I
Brittany will cherish mine forever. If I ever need to know
how to spell a word I will look in my dictionary. I just got
the dictionary yesterday and I already love it. I think it
will help me to become a better speller. I have been studying
the dictionary and learning things I never knew before. This
dictionary will help me through the rest of my school years.
Thanks to you guys for funding money for the dictionaries.
My brain will be the smartest brain in third grade. Thanks
again for the dictionary!
Your friend,
Brittany, Goose Creek, SC
Dear Mark Robinson
and Staff, Thank you for the dictionaries.
My mom was going to buy me a dictionary that costs $8.00.
But I’ll tell my mom that I got my own.

Thank you California
Dictionary Project, I’m going
to use my dictionary for my homework and test my brother.
Sometimes I’ll use it to find states and to teach my
mom and dad to speak better English, and to learn words that
I don’t know.
From Eddie - Fruitvale Elementary
Dear Mark Robinson,

Dear Mark Robinson,
Thank you for the dictionaries.
It was very kind of you to give us dictionaries. I am going
to treat it well and keep it in nice condition. I will play
games with it and won’t let my brother or sister rip
it because it is mine. I will treat it like a baby. I am very
happy because now I can play with it on dark and stormy nights.
Thank you very, very much.
Yours truly, Nichol - Lazear Elementary
Dear Publix,
I have two reasons why I am thankful
for the dictionary. A dictionary is a great book that has
many words and their meanings. First, a dictionary helps me
define words. For example, I use the dictionary for defining
my spelling words. Secondly, the dictionary has all kinds
of words and meanings. For instance, a dictionary can have
one word that sounds like other words that have different
meanings. I am very thankful that you sent us these dictionaries.
We will be using the dictionaries for along time.
Love,
Mackenzie,Goose Creek, SC
