San Bernardino Rotary Club Launches Its Annual Dictionary Project

Rotary Club of San Bernardino kicked off its Dictionary Project last week at Lincoln Elementary School in San Bernardino. Every year, Rotary International members donate dictionaries to third-grade students across the nation. The Rotary Club of San Bernardino serves local students by providing a personal dictionary to every third-grader in the San Bernardino City Unified School District, according to a club news release. According to educators, students who meet grade-level reading standards by third grade are more likely to succeed in school. “We focus our efforts on third-graders because that is such an important milestone in a child’s educational life,” said Rotary member Ed Ridder. “We hope the children will use the dictionaries at school and at home to become good readers and writers.” Since 1995, Rotary International has donated dictionaries to more than 18 million children. This year, the Rotary Club of San Bernardino, in partnership with Stater Bros. Charities, will deliver about 5,000 dictionaries to third-graders in nearly 60 San Bernardino City Unified School District and parochial schools. “Stater Bros. Charities has been instrumental in making the Dictionary Project happen this year,” Ridder said. “We welcome the support and recognize that Stater Bros. Charities is a kindred spirit, focusing on helping those in need in our community.” READ MORE HERE: http://www.sbsun.com/social-affairs/20141212/san-bernardino-rotary-club-launches-its-annual-dictionary-project
