Emmett Rotary dictionary project

The Emmett Rotary Club supports the Dictionary Project, which strives to provide dictionaries to all third graders throughout the United States. This year, the club has supplied 209 dictionaries to all Gem County elementary schools and Garden Valley in Boise County. Nationally, last year the program distributed 2.5 million dictionaries to third graders. Funds for the project originated with the Rotary District 5400 Simplified Grant Program. The Dictionary Project was originally started in South Carolina in 1995. This is the fourth year that Emmett Rotary has participated. This year statewide 67 percent of Idaho third graders will have received new books. The goal of this program is to assist all students in completing the school year as good writers, active readers and creative thinkers by providing students with their own personal dictionary. The Emmett Rotary Club meets every Thursday at noon at LaCosta Restaurant on North Washington Avenue.
