Pearlridge Rotarians hand-deliver free dictionaries to Waiau Elementary

Mission accomplished! The Rotary Club of Pearlridge delivered their last batch of free dictionaries for the 2010-2011 school year to third grade students at Waiau Elementary School in Pearl City on Friday, April 1.

The Rotary Club of Pearlridge sponsored dictionaries during their annual Dictionary Project for five schools in the Pearl City and Aiea school districts. Third grade classes from the following schools received donated dictionaries: Lehua, Momilani, Palisades, Waiau and Webling. A total of 330 dictionaries were presented to five elementary schools.

Ninety dictionaries were distributed to the students and teachers from four third grade classrooms at Waiau Elementary on Friday that also included a class that represented the third grade Hawaiian Immersion program.

Kumu Lahela Igarta and her students welcomed Rotary Club of Pearlridge President Theo Stiller and a group of Rotary volunteers with gifts and a heart-felt greeting of Aloha that was spoken in Hawaiian.

Waiau Elementary School Principal Troy Takazono and his third grade teaching staff assisted the Pearlridge Rotary volunteers during the 30 minute presentation.

Mahalo to Pearlridge Rotary volunteers Dick Mosko, Rick Lau, Gordon Arakaki, Roy Matsuo, Barry Villamil and President, Theo Stiller.

We’re all looking forward to next year’s Dictionary Project presentations!
