Madera Elks Lodge No. 1918 Promotes Literacy Through The Dictionary Project

Since 2007, the Madera Elks Lodge No. 1918 has proudly partnered with The Dictionary Project to promote literacy and learning among local students. To date, the Lodge has donated an impressive 37,752 dictionaries to third-grade students in the Madera and Chowchilla communities.

Each year, Lodge members raise funds to purchase dictionaries for students in 27 local schools, ensuring that every third grader receives their very own book to support reading, writing, and vocabulary development.

This year’s effort was made possible in part through a grant from the Elks National Foundation, which is funded by donations from Elks members across the United States. The Lodge’s continued commitment to The Dictionary Project reflects the Elks’ mission to invest in their communities and support youth education, which was recently celebrated in the Madera Tribune.

Through their generosity and dedication, the members of Madera Elks Lodge No. 1918 are making a lasting impact—one dictionary, and one student, at a time
