A dictionary teaches a child how to approach a problem and use critical thinking skills by sounding out the word and finding it in the dictionary. This simple task gives them a feeling of self-confidence and satisfaction that they cannot get online.

Dictionary project

Heuvelton Central School third-grade students in Tina Mills’s and Melissa Fennessey’s classes recently benefited from the Ogdensburg Elks Sheila Gwin Dictionary Project.  The dictionary project is named after a former Ogdensburg school administrator and Elk member Sheila Gwin. The Elks this year were able to give 270 dictionaries to students in Ogdensburg, Heuvelton, Lisbon, Hammond and Morristown.
