On referal from a Rotarian (my dad), our Kiwanis Club has adopted this annual distribution as part of Kiwanis “Read Around the World” project. This is our 4th year. This is one of the most popular service projects we have and it is so simple and fun! The third grade students are like sponges!

This is a great project that involves many members of our Rotary Club. Members love to participate in the distribution and see the happy faces of children who sometimes are receiving their very own book for the first time.

This the fifth year the Kiwanis Club of Haslett is providing dictionaries to third graders in the Haslett School District. Every year we receive many letters of appreciation from the students and teachers. These letters also let us know how the students use the dictionaries in their classes and lessons. I think the Dictionary Project is a great idea. We feel the third grade...

We have decided to participate in this project as part of our support of the Rotary emphasis on literacy. It addresses the young, who have not been included in our contribution of a literacy room to the library and a stocked bookcase for a residence for the elderly. We feel this is a meaningful way to teach and encourage students about a powerful tool...

The Grange members spend the afternoon with the 3rd graders and use the dictionary project to get to know them. This is the ninth year we have been doing the project and many older ones we started out with have their book with them in school when we ask about them.

The Carl Hill Galloway Pioneer Club has participated annually in the Dictionary Project over several years. We look forward to the opportunity to provide local students with the means to educate themselves, through owning and using their own dictionaries.

Our Rotary Club has presented dictionaries to children for several years. We do it as an educational outreach for our community. The dictionary project is a wonderful idea and much needed.

We are donating dictionaries to all third graders and thesauri to all seventh graders at our local school. We have been participating for 7-8 years. The children love getting these books, especially the third graders. We are glad to be a part of your vision to help children read. Great program. Thank you for putting this together.

We would like to give credit to all of the customers at our public suppers and craft fairs who support us in this project. We do a raffle each year which funds the project. Also the Maine State Grange has a Community Service Grant Program that will reinburse us 50% of the cost of the dictionaries.

This project has been a very uplifting experience for our Kiwanis Club. The Club members put a label with each child’s name in it and deliver them to the schools personally. The looks and thank-yous we get are well worth all the effort. One teacher told us the students were so excited she had to take the rest of the day working with them...
