Shana Fair, Rotary Club of Byesville, Senecaville, OH
This is an annual project for the club. We donate a dictionary to each 3rd grader in the district. For many of the students, this is the first book they have ever owned. Members of the club go to each school to personally distribute the dictionaries. One of the members will work with each class and get the students to use the dictionaries to... Read More
Pamela Woodard George, Rotary Club of Conway Morning, Conway, AR
The members of Conway Morning Rotary are proud to encourage local students in the pursuit of their educational goals. As residents of the “City of Colleges”, we are keenly aware of the need for a solid foundation in the fundamentals of education, especially reading.
Mary Gumm, Rotary Club of White Salmon-Bingen, White Salmon, WA
The Dictionary Project is an excellent way for our Rotary Club to stay in touch with the students and the school district. The third graders are so bright and delighted to learn. Our visit is a special event for the children. Two Rotarians attend each classroom so we make sure all students participate in understanding how to look up words and use their books.
Sara Cowley, Kiwanis Club of Winamac, Winamac, IN
On referal from a Rotarian (my dad), our Kiwanis Club has adopted this annual distribution as part of Kiwanis “Read Around the World” project. This is our 4th year. This is one of the most popular service projects we have and it is so simple and fun! The third grade students are like sponges!
Jerry Ramsey, Rotary Club of Boise Sunrise, Boise, ID
This is a great project that involves many members of our Rotary Club. Members love to participate in the distribution and see the happy faces of children who sometimes are receiving their very own book for the first time.
Victor Samuelson, Kiwanis Club of Haslett, Haslett, MI

Every year we receive many letters of appreciation from the students and teachers. These letters also let us know how the students use the dictionaries in their classes and lessons. I think the Dictionary Project is a great idea. We feel the third grade... Read More

It addresses the young, who have not been included in our contribution of a literacy room to the library and a stocked bookcase for a residence for the elderly. We feel this is a meaningful way to teach and encourage students about a powerful tool... Read More
Charlotte Mehrtens, Bluff Grange # 1826, Millstadt, IL
The Grange members spend the afternoon with the 3rd graders and use the dictionary project to get to know them. This is the ninth year we have been doing the project and many older ones we started out with have their book with them in school when we ask about them.
Cathy Lail, ITPA-Embarq / Carl Hill Galloway Pioneers, Apopka, FL
The Carl Hill Galloway Pioneer Club has participated annually in the Dictionary Project over several years. We look forward to the opportunity to provide local students with the means to educate themselves, through owning and using their own dictionaries.
Karen Rich, Rotary Club of Bluefield, Bluefield, VA
Our Rotary Club has presented dictionaries to children for several years. We do it as an educational outreach for our community. The dictionary project is a wonderful idea and much needed.
