Steven Gilbert, Augusta Elks Lodge # 964, Augusta, ME
This is the 4th year we have participated in the project. It has been a big hit with the kids, teachers and administrators. We hope to improve the kid’s reading, writing and spelling skills as well as reduce illiteracy amongst our local students. This is a great community project and allows our organization to show community involvement and that we believe that the kids... Read More
Douglas Hoins, Kiwanis Club of Superior, Superior, NE
The Superior Kiwanis Club has sponsored the Dictionary Project for third graders in our school district for the past 8 years! Our third graders love the dictionaries and it has been a great PR project for the Superior Kiwanis Club.
Shirley Gilmore, Carmichael Elks Lodge # 2103, Carmichael, CA
Members of the group go to all the schools in the district. In today’s economy, it’s great to give dictionaries to the students so their parents don’t have to buy it, or the teachers or the schools. It’s great for everyone!
Carol Huffer, Atwood Lions Club, Warsaw, IN
In the county of Kosciusko, in Indiana, we have 13 public schools and, ironically, 13 Lions Clubs. Last year, 4 of these Lions Clubs provided dictionaries to 4 of the public schools. And now we have the remaining 9 Lions Clubs ordering dictionaries for the remaining 9 county public schools. This will give all of our public school third graders a dictionary of their... Read More

It’s going very well, for a 17-member Rotary Club! Our club is a bunch of educators, I’m a retired teacher and the dictionaries are very important to us. The kids and the club members call me “Dictionary Debra”.
Linda Henson, Kiwanis Club of Eastmont, East Wenatchee, WA
We have been doing this project for seven years. We did a club assessment recently and this project was #1. The club enjoys participating, and the joy from the kids is catching.
Dave Pratt, Yelm Lions Club, Yelm, WA
The members of the Yelm Lions Club distribute the dictionaries directly to the children in the classrooms, with the aid and support of the school district and teachers. Our teachers now teach from the dictionaries and don’t buy their own for the schools. It is pretty exciting. Been doing this for about 5-6 years. Introduced it to the Lions of Washington State. It’s well... Read More

This is our 4th year in the Project and we are quite proud and humbled by the experience. We are a small group of less than 50 members who hold miscellaneous fund raisers through the year to finance our project. The excitement on the faces of the children is well worth the work we put into our fundraising efforts.
Autumn Vorpe-Seyler, Rotary Club of Kittanning, Kittanning, PA
The Kittanning Rotary club works with the Armstrong School District in purchasing dictionaries for all 3rd grades students for the entire district. All of the Kittanning Rotary Club members will distribute the books on the same day at the same time. This will be the third year for this project. We think this project is great and a great way for the Rotary be... Read More
Ronald Jensen, Rotary Club of Murray, Murray, UT
This is our 6th of 7th year. We love the project and plan to continue to participate indefinitely. Joyce Tornquist, a deceased friend of one of our members, thought so much of the project that she left us enough money in her will to fund the project indefinitely. What a blessing for us.
