Gene Burkett, Rotary Club of Merritt Island, Indialantic, FL
We have been providing back-to-school supplies for underprivileged children attending the Devereux Hospital School for over 10 years. This year we are adding a dictionary to the supplies. Case workers make the list of supplies and Rotarians shop for the supplies which are then distributed to the students. Great program. We will be doing another project later in the year for 9th graders in... Read More
Donald Gunderson, Rotary Club of Fillmore Sun Risers, Fillmore, CA
I believe this will be the fifth year Sun Risers Rotary has provided dictionaries to the 3rd grade students in the District. First, I’m amazed we can get such a fine book at such a reasonable cost. This project is always so appreciated by both the students and the faculty of the schools. Our Rotary Club will receive a 50% matching District Simplified Grant... Read More

Shelley Norris, Tishomingo Lions Club, Tishomingo, OK
This is the first year for the Tishomingo, OK Lions Club to be involved in this program. I think it is such a good idea. We are a small county in southern Oklahoma with the largest town having a population of approx. 3000 people. This is a wonderful way for us to get involved with children and introduce them to Lions early, hopefully showing... Read More
Barbara Bates, Niswonger Foundation, Greeneville, TN
This will be the ninth year that the Niswonger Foundation has participated in The Dictionary Project. We present the dictionaries to third grade students in the city and county schools of Greeneville/Greene County, Tennessee. This is a great project. The children are always so excited to get them.
Steve Heiser, Canajoharie-Fort Plain Elks Lodge # 2621, Fort Plain, NY
We’re in a rural area and these kids do not have much so they really love getting a dictionary. Been participating for about 5 or 6 years now and really enjoy the program.
Kathy Frommeyer, Newport Elks Lodge # 273, Cold Spring, KY
This is the most rewarding project we have ever done. The students are so appreciative and their thank you letters are precious.
Steven Wasserman, Faribault Lions Club, Faribault, MN
This has been a great project for our club. We have been doing it for about 6 years now, and always get to make a presentation at a school board meeting which is televised on local cable TV, visit classrooms to tell students about our club and give them dictionaries, and get photos and an article in the newspaper. It’s a win-win-win situation!!!
Stefani Woods, Kiwanis Club of Exeter, Exeter, CA
This is the 6th year we have participated in The Dictionary Project. This last year, we have spread the word to other Kiwanis Clubs in California and many of them have started their own Dictionary Projects.
James Glasscock, Englewood Masonic Lodge # 166, Denver, CO
This is our 6th year with this project. The students and teachers love them, and we have heard comments from former 3rd graders still using the dictionaries.
