The Vandalia Rotary Club has been participating with The Dictionary Project for the last three years. This is the second year AT&T TelecomPioneers NW Metro Council of Marietta, GA, has participated in The Dictionary Project. We are looking forward to this year’s presentation because the kids LOVE to get their own dictionaries.

Students were very excited to receive their brand new dictionaries, as evidenced by some of their comments in thank-you letters to Commerce City Rotary members, “Thank you for the amazing dictionaries. We have been participating for the past 5 years. We enjoy giving the dictionaries, and the students are always so excited about us coming.

2008 was our first year of this project; but we have voted to make it an annual project. It is a wonderful project and last year our Rotary Club received hand written thank you notes from every third grade student. We have found this program to really have an effect on the students’ learning. The teachers are always very thankful and the look on the students’ faces is really worth the effort. This is our 9th year of being involved in the Dictionary Project – I think that speaks for itself!

We have been distributing dictionaries to our area schools for six or seven years and it is just amazing how much the kids enjoy receiving their own dictionary. Even more fulfilling is the great feeling of possibly changing someone’s future for the better.
