This will be our 9th year for the “Words for Thirds” project. It is such a plesure to see how excited the students are to receive a book of their own. Teachers are very grateful as well. Our members who help distribute the dictionaries really enjoy the time spent with the children. It always makes us feel good..
Kyle Gibbs, Optimist Club of Marshall, Marshall, MO
We have been doing this project longer than I have been a member of the Optimist Club. I would say that we have been handing out dictionaries for 20 years or more.. We handed out the dictionary we are ordering today last year and we loved that it had the declaration of independence and so many other things in the back of it. I... Read More

We have been participated for many years. We think this program is an awesome way to help our schools! Feedback we receive is that the 3rd graders continue to use their dictionaries as they continue up the education ladder..

I have been chair of the dictionary program for 3 years and really enjoy going into the schools and meeting the kids. I think the dictionary program is wonderful because of the look on the children’s faces when they learn that they will be receiving their very own dictionaries,.

We have been distributing Dictionaries for about 11 years and Thesaurus for about 6. We love the project.. It is by far the best PR project we have and very popular in the community..

Giving the 3rd graders at Clinton Public School dictionaries for over 5 years. They hear about it as 2nd graders and always look for us to come visit them with the books. Some are surprised when we tell them they can keep the books. We have an assembly and go through some of the fun things in the books. The best is always the... Read More

This is about the fourth year we have participated.. We feel it is important for students to learn to use the dictionary and feel that owning their own copies helps to invest them in doing so. I do wonder what the future will hold for things such as regular books as electronic tablets become more and more part of the school curriculum..
Patti Green, Rotary Club of Arbuckle Sunrise, Ardmore, OK
This is our 4th or 5th year for our dictionary project. We began with the Ardmore City Schools District with 3 elementaries (Jefferson, Lincoln and Charles Evans) Franklin Elementary was shut down 2 years ago and the school boundary lines were redrawn. Those students are now either at Lincoln, Jefferson, or Charles Evans. The next year we included Plainview. Now we distribute dictionaries to... Read More
