Mike Melton and I have been doing this for the about 6 years, we include comic books donated by Emblem Club # 254 on drug awareness, as National Drug awareness week is shortly after this. We have received letters of gratitude always from all the schools. We have done as many as 16 schools and 1,500 dictionaries.

This is the fourth year our Rotary Club has been participating in this project. We make every effort to get the books to the schools early in the year. We visit each school to distribute the books. We Kiwanians are dedicated to changing the world one child and one community at a time. In keeping with this, we are providing dictionaries to every sixth grade student in Pahrump.

We explain the importance of education and communication through the use of the dictionary. Our club has been doing the project for several years and we the Lions really enjoy taking the dictionaries out to the schools and giving them to each student and seeing their smiles and getting a thank you from each student.

As a Telephone Pioneer club, we want to assist our local schools and this is the 3rd year that we have been participating in this project. The Elysburg Rotary Club is proud to a a part of this literacy project. It gives us great joy to present these to the students, and hopefully they will remember the day they received these and become a future Rotarian.

We enjoy doing this project, and to see the young children’s faces light up getting these dictionaries is a very good feeling for us.

This is our organization’s second year involved with this project, and we had a tremendous response last year. The school officials, teachers, and students were very appreciative of our donation. This is a great project, and we can have a big impact with a minimal cost.

This is our 3rd year of making a presentation to our local elementary schools. The teachers are on board and can’t wait for us to get them the books so they can begin using them for their lessons. This is a great program.
