Rotary Class-3 Student Dictionary Project Gets Boost

Three Rotary Clubs in the BVI have each received a $1,000 District Simplified Grant to continue with the Dictionary Project, through which each class-3 student in the BVI public schools will be given a dictionary. Dr. Marcia Potter, Acting Chief Education Officer, receive one of these dictionaries at the recently held joint luncheon meeting held at the Moorings in celebration of Rotary Foundation Month. The rest of the dictionaries will be distributed to the schools in the coming weeks. President of the Rotary Club of Tortola, Mrs. Lorna Smith said at the meeting that Rotary clubs in the BVI would continue to “uplift the welfare of humanity in many areas including health, education and youth development among others.” Smith said the clubs have collectively “have achieved much in the BVI”. Meanwhile, the meeting’s guest speaker David Johnson of Oil Nut Bay, Virgin Gorda, spoke about philanthropy and change. He gave members and guests a speech about “life’s journey on the way we approach everything.” “Go to the experts, seek out guidance, leadership, care the land while we are here, we can make a difference,” he said. Johnson also gave an overview of the current progress on his various developments in Virgin Gorda. The meeting was attended by Zone 7020 District Governor Mrs. Diana White, who recognized President-Elect Yvonne Crabbe of the Rotary Club of Road Town on becoming a member of the Rotary Bequest Society.
