Knowledge is power, and West Plains R-7 third graders now have access to more of it even while outside the classroom, thanks to a dictionary for each of them donated by West Plains Elks Lodge No. 2418. A donation of dictionaries has also been made to Richards School third graders by members of the West Plains Elks Lodge. Plans are for similar donations to other area schools.
Last year, more than 200,000 dictionaries were given out by Elks members nationwide.
The Elks received many letters of thanks from the students, including this one:
Dear Elks Representatives,
Thank you for the dictionaries. I youse my dictionary for my homework only if my strategies donot work. Other times I youse it for fun and if a famly mimber need to find out what a word meens.
