The Manson Grange presents the Dictionary Project

Created in 1995, this project has involved providing a dictionary to every third-grade student in the United States. We believe by giving children the power of words, we have empowered them and their families to improve their lives and the lives of the people around them.

2011 Giveaway Schedule

Tuesday, October 25th, 2011

12:55 p.m. & 1:45 p.m. Buses leave Manson & Chelan Schools

1 p.m.& 2 p.m. 3rd Graders arrive at the Manson Grange. Manson @ 1 p.m., then Chelan @ 2 p.m.

‘Buses can park in front of building on Main street.

Children enter Grange through front doors & sit in designated area in front of stage.

1:05 p.m. & 2:05 p.m. Welcome, history & dictionary definition of the Grange ..Presented by Alice Killian, our Grange Lecturer.

1:10 p.m. & 2:10 p.m. "The Many Hats of a Granger".

Each character is introduced using the dictionary’s definition.

Character enters with piano music provided by Betty Sloll.

We allow only one to two minutes per character.

We explain how the Grange is used by that character & how our valley benefits.

Farmer…. Farmers’ Market …Gordon Lester Cook.

Community Fundraisers … Kim Ustanik

Voter……Women’s rights…Joan Lester

Gardener.. Tree & Plant Sales .. .Russ Lester

Renter…Grange Rentals & Celebrations …Hal Killian

1 :23 p.m. & 2:23 p.m. Close with dictionary definition of a Granger.

All characters come back on stage (and, any Grange members in the audience) still in costume and wearing a Grange sash. Stating in unison …"We are the Grange!"

1:25 p.m. & 2:25 p.m. 3rd Graders then will receive Dictionaries on stage & exit off­stage through the side staging door & proceed down the side stairs, picking up cookies & juice at the kitchen counter, before climbing the front stairs to the waiting buses.

1:35 p.m. & 2:35 p.m. Buses leave Grange Hall heading back to schools.

Parents & the public are welcome & encouraged to attend.
