A dictionary teaches a child how to approach a problem and use critical thinking skills by sounding out the word and finding it in the dictionary. This simple task gives them a feeling of self-confidence and satisfaction that they cannot get online.

Elks care and Elks share

Once again the Greencastle Elks Lodge # 1077 participated in the Dictionary Project, which provided dictionaries to all Putnam County fifth graders, along with a thesaurus and world atlas. The goal of the project is to promote literacy to children as they transition from learning how to read to identifying and using information. The Elks joined this movement nationwide in 2004 and have donated more than 1.2 million dictionaries to students and their teachers as sponsors of the Dictionary Project.
