Members of the Florence Rotary Club, led by Rotarian Ken Gunter, distributed dictionaries to students at Carver Elementary School. As the students anxiously flipped through the pages, Principal Rogers gave the students the task of finding and counting the letters for the longest word in the dictionary. If you are unfamiliar with the longest word in the English language, it consists of 1,909 letters – quite a mouth full. Nothing beats witnessing a student’s face when he or she looks up the longest word for the first time, better yet, trying to pronounce it. Thank you to the Florence Rotary Club for inspiring children to learn new words!
