Westfield Lions wrap up yet another Dictionary Project to Third Graders

The Westfield Lions Club recently completed its annual Dictionary Project, ensuring that every third grader in the Westfield school system received a personal Webster dictionary. On October 17, club members visited Maple Glen Elementary School— their final stop—where they distributed 130 dictionaries, bringing this year’s total to 810 books.

For 12 years, the Westfield Lions have proudly participated in The Dictionary Project, a national literacy initiative that provides free dictionaries to third-grade students across the country. Since the program began in 1992, more than 31 million children have received their own dictionaries.

“It’s always a joy to visit the schools and see how excited the students are to get their very own dictionaries,” said Lion Jeff Larrison, chair of the Westfield Lions Dictionary Project. “We love sharing what the Lions Club is all about and being part of something that inspires learning.”

Over the years, the Lions have become affectionately known around town as “the book guys.” Their literacy outreach is just one part of the club’s ongoing commitment to supporting Westfield students. The Lions also contribute to local scholarships, educational programs, vision care for students in need, and community initiatives such as scout sponsorships, the Open Doors Weekend Food Bag program, and the Heart & Soul Free Clinic.

The Westfield Lions Club has been serving Westfield and Hamilton County since 1930. To learn more or get involved, visit westfieldlions.org.
