A dictionary teaches a child how to approach a problem and use critical thinking skills by sounding out the word and finding it in the dictionary. This simple task gives them a feeling of self-confidence and satisfaction that they cannot get online.

Chesterton Lions dictionary project

The Chesterton Lions Club from Chesterton, Indiana, has again completed a very successful distribution of over 538 dictionaries to 3rd-grade students in seven elementary schools in our district. The schools included The Discovery Charter School, Bailly Elementary, Brummitt Elementary, Yost Elementary, Jackson Township Elementary, Liberty Township Elementary, and St. Patrick’s Elementary Schools. The books were handed out by our Lion Mascot "Chester," along with a letter to each parent explaining the goal of the Lions in providing the books. We were warmly received at each schools by principals, teachers, and students, who showered "Chester" with hugs and high-fives after receiving their books.
