We have been delivering dictionaries to our county’s 3rd-grade class for the past ten years. We think it is a wonderful program and love to see how excited the children are when they receive them. Some children comment on how the dictionary is the only book they will have at home.

The Liberty Rotary Club has participated in this program annually since 2002. Over 1,700 dictionaries have been donated to the third-grade students. This year, the Club expanded the project to include providing the dictionary/thesaurus to the seventh-grade class as well as the English/Spanish dictionary to the ESL class in the middle school. This is a yearly project of the Midland Morning and Noon Rotary Clubs! This project greatly emphasizes our focus on improving the welfare of our children in Midland.

The program is so easy. We certainly get back far more than what it costs to pay for the dictionaries. The benefits the dictionaries offer also far outweigh the cost. We always receive a positive response from the school teachers whose classes receive the dictionaries. Other leaders in the community are impressed with this promotion of literacy.

Last year we distributed Atlases for the first time. We had some very positive feedback from the students and teachers explaining how they were able to use the Atlases. This is a great project and affordable to all.
