This is our Rotary clubs’ ninth year delivering the dictionaries and each year it is so appreciated. It is a great project needed sorely by some schools especially the Penns Valley SD.

This has been a major community service project for our club for 7 years, beginning in 2006, the year we chartered, and continuing uninterupted every year since. I love that I can provide these books. Some people think that kids can just look up words they don’t know on online dictionaries, but most of my students do not have internet access available in their homes, only in school. I encourage the kids to keep their dictionary with them when they read at home and look up words they do not understand.

We always enjoy presenting the dictionaries and watching the excitement in the children. “Is it really mine to keep?” is a question we hear often.

We have been participating for 5 years. It is important for our Club to continue this project for our 3rd graders. Literacy is so important and 3rd grade is a crucial time for our kids.

Our third year in providing dictionaries to the third graders in our town. You would think it was Christmas morning when we tell them the book is theirs to keep. This is a great project, with immediate, and long term rewards for all.
