Johnson City Rotary Club & Elks Lodge working together

The Johnson City Rotary Club and the Benevolent Order of the Elks, Johnson City, worked together this year to present dictionaries to all third graders at Johnson City Middle School, Oxford Central School, Oxford, NY, and St Thomas Aquinas School, Binghamton, NY.

The BPOE of Johnson City has provided dictionaries for a few years, and this was Johnson City Rotary`s second year involved in The Dictionary Project. Both organizations feel strongly that this is a very worthwhile program and one that should be continued each year to make a real impact on the education of our young people. For a very nominal cost, we are helping to lay the groundwork to encourage each student to strive to learn and do their best throughout their lives.
We were so impressed with the role the teachers play in their student`s lives and the appreciation of all the children.

LETTERS FROM STUDENTS:

Thank you for my dictionary. I will use it forever. I keep it in my bookbag so I can find words on the bus or at school in the morning. Sometimes I take it out at home if I have time to. When I have time to, I ask my Mom or Dad if one of them can give a word and I can find the definition.

Sincerely,
Alexandra B.

Thank you for coming to our school and giving us these dictionaries. The dictionary gives me a lot of information. I reall appreciate it.

Thank you,
Brandon U.

I am so happy you gave me the dictionary. I use it all the time for words and spelling. I like the section that talks about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. I also am an amazing kind of guy.

Yours truly,
Mikey R.

I really like the dictionary you gave me. I like the section where you get information on the 50 states. Thank you very much. I will use it for the rest of my life. I promise to show it to my family but first we are going to do activities with it.

Thank you, I really appreciate it!

Yours truly,
Alanna H.
