Rotary brings dictionaries to Niwot students

Ninety-six Spanish-English Dictionaries were distributed to the ESL (English as a Second Language) students at Niwot High School, on Friday, November 21, 2008, to promote world literacy, by the Rotary Club of Niwot. Each student`s name was printed on a label in the front of each dictionary. These dictionaries will help the students as they work hard to earn high school diplomas.

On October 16, 2008, in celebration of Noah Webster`s 250th birthday, the Rotary Club of Niwot, along with help of the Ferrero Family, distributed over 260 dictionaries to all students in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades at Niwot Elementary School. Each student`s name was printed on a label in the front of each dictionary. The Niwot Rotary Club plans to continue literacy awareness with an annual distribution of dictionaries to all 3rd grade students each year.

Following are two thank-you notes received from teachers at Niwot Elementary School:

Dear Niwot Rotary,

I wanted to share these notes from my excited, grateful students. Your support is amazing, and we were all very touched to realize that the Rotary community cares about our students` educations. Thank you for your generosity and outreach!

Sincerely,

Stephanie Horne

Dear Rotary Members,

Thank you so much for the gift of dictionaries you gave to the children and our classroom. They are thrilled to have them and are anxious to use them at any given moment. They often compete to see who can find a word first and share the appropriate definition. I showed them a dictionary that I have had for many years, and they were excited with the thought that these dictionaries could be with them for a very long time.

It is such a generous gift for the students and appreciated by them more than you will know. I hope these heartfelt letters offer a small glimpse into what this gift has meant to them.

With many thanks,

Cynthia Summers
