Coolidge Rotary Club gives dictionaries to third graders

The Coolidge Rotary Club gifted dictionaries to every 3rd grade student at West Elementary School, Heartland Ranch Elementary, San Tan Heights Elementary, Imagine School and Academy of Excellence School. Coolidge Rotary members visited these schools to distribute 408 total dictionaries.

The Coolidge Rotary Club included the elementary schools in the Coolidge Unified School District as well as the 2 charter schools in Coolidge. It is always fun to go into the classrooms and personally hand out the dictionaries to these students. The students were thankful and appreciative of the dictionaries. Students are encouraged to write their names in the dictionaries and take them home. The Coolidge Rotary Club has been part of the Dictionary Project for the last several years. The Dictionary Project is a non-profit organization that partners with other clubs and organizations to get dictionaries to all 3rd grade students. The Dictionary Project is an international effort. The goal of this program is to assist all students in becoming good writers, active readers, creative thinkers, and resourceful learners by providing them with their own personal dictionary. The dictionaries are a gift to each student to use at school and at home for years to come. Educators see third grade as the dividing line between learning to read and reading to learn, so we encourage sponsors to give dictionaries each year to children in the third grade.
