Gulf Breeze High School Key Club Donates Dictionaries to Florida Students

The Gulf Breeze High School Key Club vice President, John Stopper, requested a grant for $666.66 from the Florida Key Club District. The club applied for the Florida Opportunity Fund Grant (FLOF) and it was granted on October 6, 2013. 792 “The Best Dictionary for Students” were ordered and cost $990.00, the dictionaries were received on October 10, 2013. The dictionaries were passed out to 12 different schools in and around our county during the months of November and December. At each school a group of 4 to 7 Gulf Breeze Key Clubbers went to each school passed out dictionaries to all the 3rd graders and then they would proceed to have a round of trivia with questions like “does any one know the longest word in the dictionary?” then the key club would help the 3rd graders find the answer in the back of the book, the answer being “Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanokoniosis.” The 3rd graders absolutely love their dictionaries and the teachers love that each child has his or her very own dictionary. The Dictionary Project has been a big success for the last couple years and hopefully for many years to come. Source: Email from Emily Delp
