Rotary Club of Soledad Leaves Lasting Impression on Third Graders

The goal of the Soledad Rotary Club is to build strong literacy skills in the community by making sure that every third grader has a personal dictionary he or she can use at home and at school. Since starting the program in 2008, Project Coordinator Beverly Willitts has encouraged club members to contribute a dollar to the club’s “dictionary can” to fund their community service project. “We are still passing the can around every week at our lunch meetings. Within a year, we have enough for the 400 plus dictionaries and the children’s happy faces will be enough to see how they feel. Thank you again for such a great dictionary,” said Beverley Willitts. The Dictionary Project is thankful for Beverley Willitts and fellow Soledad Rotarians for making a lasting impact on the children in Soledad Unified School District, Monterey County, CA.
