A dictionary teaches a child how to approach a problem and use critical thinking skills by sounding out the word and finding it in the dictionary. This simple task gives them a feeling of self-confidence and satisfaction that they cannot get online.

Kiwanis Club of Presque Isle Brings Dictionaries to Pine Street Elementary Students

The Kiwanis Club of Presque Isle in Maine proudly launched their first Dictionary Project this year, gifting personal dictionaries to second-grade students at Pine Street Elementary School.

Club Secretary Susan Watson shared, “The Kiwanis Club of Presque Isle had the most wonderful opportunity to team up with Pine Street Elementary School and Principal William ‘Bill’ Guerrette and his staff to present A Student’s Dictionary to all the second graders.” Members of the Kiwanis Club personally visited each classroom, meeting the students and handing out the dictionaries with smiles and encouragement.

Through efforts like this, The Dictionary Project empowers young learners with the tools they need to build stronger vocabularies, improve reading skills, and foster a lifelong love of learning. The Kiwanis Club’s involvement shows the powerful impact that local service organizations can have when they invest in literacy and education.
