Rotary Club of Kinston Keeps Dictionary Tradition Alive for Lenoir County Third Graders

Since 2007, the Rotary Club of Kinston, North Carolina, has partnered with The Dictionary Project to give the gift of literacy to all third grade students in Lenoir County. This year, the club proudly continued its annual tradition, providing every third grader in the county with their own personal dictionary.

The project is a true community collaboration. Members of the Rotaract Club of Lenoir County help prepare each book by placing a custom label in the front cover—making each dictionary feel special and personal for its recipient.

This longstanding partnership is more than a distribution effort—it’s a commitment to educational equity and literacy growth. Each dictionary supports students in expanding their vocabulary, improving reading skills, and exploring the world through language—aligning with The Dictionary Project’s mission to empower young learners nationwide.
