Rotary Club of Madison-Gluckstadt Distributes Dictionaries at Camden Elementary and Luther Branson Elementary Schools

The Rotary Club of Madison-Gluckstadt presented copies of A Student`s Dictionary to third graders at Camden Elementary on Wednesday, March 24, and will deliver dictionaries to the third grade students at Luther Branson Elementary in Farmhaven on Wednesday, April 7.

The club also presented both schools with $250 gift cards from The Bookshelf on Highway 51 in Ridgeland to assist with summer reading supplies for students.
`Camden Elementary School is deeply appreciative of the generosity of the Rotary Club and the dictionaries donated for our third grade,` said Sandra Dewberry, the instructional specialist at Camden Elementary. `We thank them for being a partner in education and helping to ensure the growth and success of each child.`
`Literacy is one of the major challenges of our society, particularly in Mississippi,` said Chuck Jordan of Greenville. Jordan serves District 6820 as the 2009-2010 District Governor. `Rotary`s literacy efforts in our district are aimed at teaching reading and vocabulary at an early age. `Between the Lions,` our childcare center initiative, along with the free dictionary donations by our District 6820 clubs are making a significant impact on illiteracy. I salute the Madison-Gluckstadt Club for its free dictionary program.`
This is the second year the Rotary Club of Madison-Gluckstadt has partnered with Camden Elementary School. They will make their first trip to Luther Branson Elementary.
`The joy on the faces of children when you provide them their own personal dictionary is priceless,` said Robert Kisselburgh, president of the Rotary Club of Madison-Gluckstadt. `If we can change the life of one child by increasing their interest in reading and thus improving their literacy, our efforts have paid off beyond measure.`
