Minnehaha Grange Brings Dictionaries and Joy to Vancouver’s Third Graders

Minnehaha Grange #164 recently donated student dictionaries to all third graders at Minnehaha Elementary School in Vancouver, Washington. The delivery came just before the winter break, adding an extra layer of excitement for the young students.

In early February, the Grange received a package of heartfelt thank-you notes from the children. Many included colorful drawings—Christmas trees, Santa Claus, and happy scenes—all showing how much they loved their new dictionaries.

“We were thrilled to get such a positive response,” said Van Meter Hord, Secretary of Minnehaha Grange #164. “It reminded me of when my grandparents gave me a dictionary for Christmas. It was a gift that stayed with me.”

A photo of the group with the thank-you notes spread across a table captures the heart of this moment. The image represents more than just appreciation; it shows the impact of giving young students tools to explore language and learning.

The Dictionary Project continues to inspire communities like Minnehaha Grange to promote literacy, vocabulary development, and a lifelong love of learning—one child and one dictionary at a time.
