American Legion Furniture City Post 258 Boosts Literacy in Kent County, Michigan.

Members of the American Legion Furniture City Post 258 continued their commitment to education and patriotism by distributing personal dictionaries to third-grade students at 10 schools across Kent County, Michigan.

Each student not only received their own dictionary through The Dictionary Project, but also two bookmarks—one from the Legion featuring the Pledge of Allegiance, and another from the Legion Auxiliary adorned with poppies as a symbol of remembrance and honor.

Since joining the program in 2015, Post 258 has presented over 2,200 dictionaries, helping to build literacy skills and civic pride in local students. Their dedication highlights how veterans continue to serve their communities, shaping the next generation of thinkers and leaders—one word at a time.
