Rotarians Donate Dictionaries to the Students of Bunkie, Louisiana

As part of their 100th anniversary celebration in 2025, the Bunkie Rotary Club reaffirmed its commitment to literacy by donating dictionaries to third-grade students in Bunkie, Louisiana.

Students at St. Anthony School and Bunkie Elementary Learning Academy each received a personal copy of a dictionary thanks to the Rotary Club’s partnership with The Dictionary Project. These books are more than just educational tools — they symbolize a legacy of learning and community service that spans a century.

The Bunkie Rotarians not only funded the initiative but also took time to visit the schools, personally handing out the dictionaries and speaking with students. Their visit brought smiles to classrooms and sparked conversations about the power of language and the importance of lifelong learning.

For the Rotary Club, this gesture is part of a broader mission. Since its founding in 1925, the club has worked tirelessly to uplift its community through education and service. “Improving literacy has always been a core goal of our club,” one Rotarian said. “This is just one way we continue to honor that tradition.”

The Dictionary Project empowers students by providing access to language tools that foster independent learning and confidence in reading, writing, and speaking. The Bunkie Rotary Club’s contribution helps ensure that local students have what they need to succeed — both in and out of the classroom.
