Golden K Kiwanis of Columbia Donates Dictionaries to A.C. Moore Elementary Students
In a meaningful move to promote literacy, the Golden K Kiwanis of Columbia joined The Dictionary Project for the first time this year. Members visited A.C. Moore Elementary School in Columbia, South Carolina, to present third-grade students with their very own dictionaries.
The students gathered in the school’s media room, where Assistant Principal Tiffany Ligon welcomed Kiwanis members. Club president Chris Maw, special projects chair Janet Jordan, and board member Dan Swett personally handed out the books. The excitement on the students’ faces reflected the importance of receiving a resource they could call their own.
Research shows that around the age of eight, children make significant strides in vocabulary development, reading, and writing. By providing a physical dictionary, the Golden K Kiwanis Club empowers students with a tool that supports their academic journey and fosters a love of language.
This initiative marks the beginning of what the club hopes will become a cherished annual tradition.
