Johnson City Rotary Club and Elks Lodge Gift Dictionaries to Third Graders

All third-grade students at Johnson City Elementary School in New York recently received a special gift: their own personal dictionaries, thanks to the Johnson City Rotary Club and Johnson City Elks Lodge #2821.

This generous initiative, which began in 2004, has now provided 3,960 dictionaries to local students. Members from both organizations visited classrooms to distribute the books and engage directly with the children—a meaningful moment that students and teachers alike look forward to each year.

The project, done in partnership with The Dictionary Project, supports early literacy and helps students build strong vocabulary and reading comprehension skills.

This collaborative effort reflects the continued dedication of Johnson City’s civic groups to education and youth development.
