Olean Rotary Club Delivers Dictionaries to 300 Third Graders in Six Schools
Becoming a strong reader, writer, and critical thinker starts with having the right tools—and more than 300 third-grade students in six area schools now have a key resource to help them grow: their own personal dictionaries, thanks to the Rotary Club of Olean.
As part of its ongoing commitment to literacy, the club visited Washington West, East View, Portville, Southern Tier Catholic, Allegany-Limestone, and Hinsdale Elementary Schools this March to deliver the books in person. The excitement among students and appreciation from teachers made each visit a memorable event.
The Dictionary Project aims to foster independent learning and strong communication skills. Since joining the initiative in 2015, the Olean Rotary Club has distributed over 2,660 dictionaries to local students.
Funding for the program comes from the Olean Rotary Dictionary Fund, supported by generous donations from club members and the broader community. Their continued commitment ensures students in Cattaraugus County start their education with essential learning tools.
