Ravena Grange Spreads the Power of Words to Third Graders in New York
📍 Pieter B. Coeymans Elementary School – Ravena, NY
Since 2005, Ravena Grange #1457 in New York has been planting the seeds of literacy through its long-running partnership with The Dictionary Project. Through their “Words for Thirds” initiative, members of the Grange deliver personal dictionaries to every third-grade student at Pieter B. Coeymans Elementary School.
Over the past 19 years, the Grange has gifted 1,680 dictionaries, helping generations of students build stronger vocabularies, improve reading comprehension, and gain confidence in language learning. The project is about more than just books—it’s about empowering students with a tool they can call their own and carry with them for years.
Programs like this reinforce the importance of community-led education efforts and demonstrate how small, consistent acts of service can have a lasting impact. Ravena Grange continues to play a vital role in supporting literacy and lifelong learning for local youth.
