Spring Branch ISD Dictionary Project Donates 45,000 Dictionaries Since 2009
Every third-grade student in Spring Branch Independent School District (Spring Branch ISD) in Texas receives a dictionary thanks to a dedicated group of sponsors and volunteers. Since 2004, the Spring Branch ISD Dictionary Project has worked to ensure that every child has access to this essential learning tool.
In 2009, the district partnered with The Dictionary Project, a national nonprofit promoting literacy and academic success through personal dictionary ownership. Since then, more than 45,000 students across Spring Branch ISD have received their very own copy of A Student’s Dictionary.
Along with the book, volunteers take time to explain how dictionaries can help students become better readers, writers, and thinkers—giving them the lifelong skill of independent learning. The project is a shining example of how local communities can make a tangible impact on student success.
