Westfield Lions Club Continues a Proud Tradition of Literacy Support

The Westfield Lions Club has proudly completed its dictionary project for the 2022-2023 school year, delivering over 772 dictionaries to third-grade students across all elementary schools in the Westfield-Washington School System.

After a two-year pause due to COVID-19, the Lions Club was excited to bring back this beloved program. Club Secretary Jeff Larrison led the effort, personally presenting the dictionaries to students and emphasizing that each book is their own personal copy. “It is amazing,” said Larrison. “We have kids who received a dictionary from the Lions as third graders and are now in high school — and they still use it!”

The Westfield Lions first launched this project in 2012 with 566 books. Since then, by partnering with The Dictionary Project, they have provided over 5,600 dictionaries to students, giving young learners a valuable tool for academic and personal growth. This project remains one of the Lions Club’s most heartfelt contributions to the community.
