For 20 years, the Rotary Club of the Smithfields has partnered with The Dictionary Project to promote literacy in Pennsylvania. Each year, the club donates personal dictionaries to every third grade student in the East Stroudsburg Area School District.
Since the program began in 2004, more than 8,200 students have received their own copy—a valuable resource that supports vocabulary development, reading comprehension, and independent learning.
This effort exemplifies how local Rotary Clubs advance education through community service. By placing dictionaries directly in students’ hands, the Smithfields Rotarians help ensure that young learners have access to fundamental tools that build academic confidence and curiosity.
📚 The Dictionary Project has distributed over 31 million dictionaries nationwide—demonstrating how small local acts can have a massive impact on national literacy.
