Rotary Club of Sumner Donates Dictionaries to Local Third Graders
Since 2006, the Rotary Club of Sumner, Washington has proudly partnered with The Dictionary Project to provide every third grade student in the Sumner-Bonney Lake and Dieringer School Districts with a personal dictionary. To date, almost 16,000 dictionaries have been distributed, creating lasting impact in classrooms across the region.
Each year, Sumner Rotarians visit schools to hand out the dictionaries and lead engaging demonstrations on how students can get the most out of their new learning tools. From looking up definitions to exploring fun facts and sign language charts, the experience leaves students excited and empowered to expand their vocabulary and knowledge.
Third grade is a critical time for building literacy skills. These dictionaries help students grow as readers, writers, and curious learners, and for many, it’s the first book that belongs solely to them. By continuing this annual tradition, the Rotary Club of Sumner demonstrates how a small act, like donating a dictionary, can make a big difference in the academic journey of young learners.
