Raymore-Peculiar Sunrise Optimist Club Provides Dictionaries for Students

Since 2008, the Raymore-Peculiar Sunrise Optimist Club has proudly participated in The Dictionary Project, giving young learners the tools they need to explore language and literacy. Originally distributing dictionaries to 4th graders, the club later shifted its focus to 3rd grade students — and has now provided more than 400 dictionaries annually to students in the Ray-Pec School District.

Club member Carl Kent shared a heartwarming update along with a photo of smiling students who received their dictionaries this year. “Some say the kids and teachers don’t want them,” Kent noted, “but our experience is just the opposite. The kids are very happy to receive them and the teachers are as well, indicating they will use them as teaching tools.”

The club takes pride in personalizing each dictionary with a professional label that reads: Provided by the Raymore-Peculiar Sunrise Optimist Club. They also hand-deliver the dictionaries, turning the experience into a fun, interactive moment that leaves a lasting impression on students.

By partnering with The Dictionary Project, the Ray-Pec Optimist Club continues to support literacy and education in a hands-on, meaningful way—one dictionary at a time.
