Kiwanis Club of Fremont Shares the Gift of Words with Nearly 7,000 Students

Kiwanis Club of Fremont Shares the Gift of Words with Nearly 7,000 Students.

Since 2008, the Kiwanis Club of Fremont, Nebraska has been delivering a powerful tool to support local literacy—personal dictionaries for every third-grade student in public and private schools across the city. Over the years, the club has gifted nearly 7,000 dictionaries, helping children build foundational skills in reading, writing, and communication.

The project was originally led by Gary Fouraker and is now carried forward by his wife, Marcia Fouraker. “There are plans to continue with this,” she shared. “One of our priorities is the education of children, but also, this is a way we can be involved locally. This is near and dear to our hearts because we can go into the classrooms. We can meet the children and hand them these dictionaries. It’s very gratifying when you can do something on the local level.”

By participating in The Dictionary Project, the Fremont Kiwanis Club is not only strengthening education but also reinforcing its commitment to community engagement. The joy on students’ faces as they receive a dictionary of their own highlights the lasting impact of this hands-on, heart-driven initiative.
