Rotary Club of Ponca City Brings Dictionaries to Kay County Students
The Rotary Club of Ponca City in Oklahoma recently completed its annual Dictionary Project by visiting 16 schools across Kay County. Over 650 third-grade students were each given a personal dictionary to support their literacy and learning journey.
This year’s effort was made possible in partnership with Ponca City Refinery, reinforcing the club’s commitment to education and community engagement.
Since launching the initiative in 2008, the Rotary Club of Ponca City has provided more than 8,600 dictionaries to students in the region. These books serve as lifelong learning tools, helping children improve vocabulary, reading comprehension, and writing skills.
Rotarians emphasized the importance of placing a physical book in each child’s hands. The resource not only teaches language fundamentals but also includes maps, the U.S. Constitution, multiplication tables, and more.
This literacy project is part of Rotary’s broader mission to support education and youth development in local communities.
