Golden K Kiwanis of Columbia Brings Dictionaries to A.C. Moore Elementary Third Graders
Recently, the Golden K Kiwanis Club of Columbia launched its first Dictionary Project event by donating dictionaries to third-grade students at A.C. Moore Elementary School in Columbia, South Carolina. This literacy initiative aims to improve reading and writing skills by giving each student a resource they can use for years.
Assistant Principal Tiffany Ligon welcomed Kiwanis members Chris Maw (club president), Janet Jordan (special projects chair), and Dan Swett (board member), who hand-delivered the dictionaries to students gathered in the school’s media room. The children were thrilled, flipping through pages filled with definitions, maps, grammar rules, and more.
Research shows that age 8 is a pivotal time in language development. By placing a dictionary directly in students’ hands, the Golden K Kiwanis Club empowers them to take ownership of their learning—both at school and at home.
This partnership with The Dictionary Project is a first for the Golden K Kiwanis of Columbia, but the smiles on the students’ faces and the excitement in the room suggest it won’t be the last.
