International dictionaries

Last year’s expanded Children of Africa dictionary project was successful on all accounts. Sixteen clubs in district 7470 donated 1,500 dictionaries that were distributed in Sierra Leone and Kenya as well as Haiti, Peru and the Dominican Republic. Additionally, 12 clubs donated $3,500 that enabled a second container to be shipped with clothes and supplies as well as books. The effort was coordinated by PDG Dick Wallace and the Blairstown Rotary Club. The Dictionary Project newsletter documented the effort with an article linked here: http://www.dictionaryproject.org/international/story/ayho-rotary-support-quality-education-sierra-leone-students.

This year the project is expanding and improving. There’s a new name, the Children of the World Dictionary Project, which reflects its broadening scope. It’s an easy and relatively inexpensive way for clubs to meet their international project requirement. I encourage all 7470 clubs to participate. Here’s all you have to do:

1. Place a separate order for the Student’s Dictionary & Animal Gazetteer * (International Edition). The price of this edition ($42.00/carton) is similar to the Student Dictionary that you usually order, but it has more international, rather USA specific content.

2. Have the books shipped to the Blairstown collection site:
Stan Konya,
Hallmark Homes
148 Rt. 94,
Blairstown, NJ 07825
ph:908-362-6151

When your order has been placed please send the details and who placed it to Diane Krajewski of the Blairstown club at dmkrajewski@gmail.com so that they know that it’s coming.

3. Ship a sufficient number of your club’s dictionary labels to the same address. Blairstown members have organized their Interact members to put the labels in your books.

4. Container shipping is arranged through a NJ based international charity on a space available basis. Depending upon the response we may have to arrange our own container. Clubs are being asked to set aside $100 per carton, if needed for shipping. dmkrajewski@gmail.com
